In my quiet time, I was pondering the reasons why we don’t embrace the impossible and miraculous life that Jesus commanded. I came to this answer. To put it quite simply, it is not comfortable. Delirious’ album summed up the world that we currently live in: the ‘Kingdom of Comfort’. I don’t need to get into the endless list of the conveniences and escapes that are available to us now to say that they swiftly draw us into a life of numbing meaningless.
Don’t get me wrong, I like my conveniences and comfort zones and for the most part, it’s ok. Nevertheless, we are not created to be ‘ok’. We were made to soar on wings like eagles, we were made to live in a place of intimacy with Jesus that His presence oozes out of our pores into the air around us. We were made for the heavenly realm.
We need to be constantly questioning the way that we live and match it up against how Jesus lived. He lived a naturally supernatural life. He also said that certain things would “follow” the believing believer, i.e. US. What were those? Check out Mark 16v16 – 17: “He who believes and is baptised will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues, they will take up serpents and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover”. Funny how the believer doesn’t follow after signs but the signs follow the believer.
I looked past the here and now and imagined the moment when I stand before Father and He reckons my life and what I have done with what He has given me. Will he say: “Well done, my good and faithful servant!”. Although I make every effort to be faithful in all areas of my life, I am not sure about this area of the supernatural. This is why I have decided to challenge myself and change my lifestyle to one of living in His supernatural ‘zone’.
I don’t know about you, but it has been ages since I personally ministered to someone outside of the church context where it is ‘easier’ and less of a risk. From my own experience and listening to other people’s stories, the place where God really moves is outside of our church walls. My challenge is therefore to minister to at least one person a week that does not go to our church. If you are daring, bold and tired of living the same old ‘comfortable’ way, join me in my quest to discover the impossible!
Lots of love,
